We want to ensure camp staff are ready for any situation! Staff from Camp Big Canoe and other camps are encouraged to sign up for any of the following certifications!

Basic Level Canoeing Level 1 & Level 2
May 31 at Camp Big Canoe in Bracebridge
Two Courses each 4 hours
Course 1: 8:30-12:30 Cost $75
Course 2: 1:30-5:30 Cost $75

Launching and Removing; Entering and Exiting; Pivots; Sideward Displacement; Forward Straight Line and Stop; Landing; Lifts and Carries
Level 2
Turns; Circles; Landings; Reverse Straight Line
Stand Up Paddleboard – Intro to teaching
June 1 time to be determined at Camp Big Canoe in Bracebridge
Cost: $120
Combine this with the canoeing course and stay overnight at camp with meals for a cost of $220.
This three hour session will cover basic techniques and strategies on how to teach campers to stand up paddleboard. Taught by Laurie Stimpson this course will be a fun-filled session that combines fitness, relaxation, and adventure on the serene waters, and unlock your potential as a confident SUP enthusiast.
Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross

May 24-25 Bronze Medallion ($100)
May 31-June 1 Bronze Cross ($100) at Camp Big Canoe in Bracebridge
Cost $200 for both courses (includes food and accommodation)
Bronze Cross (20 hr.): begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.
Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Lifesaving Society Emergency or Standard First Aid certifications (need not be current) or EFA or SFA from one of these approved agencies.
Remote First Aid (Also called Wilderness First Aid)

May 24-25 at Camp Big Canoe in Bracebridge
Cost $200 (includes food and accommodation)
This 2 day course is the perfect introductory course for the remote and outdoor environment. This course is designed to prepare you for providing first aid to yourself or others on a day or short duration in a remote/wilderness setting with evacuation generally possible within 24 hours.
Course Length: 20 hours (2 days) in class, approximately 50% of course taught in an outdoor setting
