After a remarkable summer of camp-magic at Hart Lake made possible by a dynamic young staff, Big Canoe is excited to welcome back long-time friend, Ian McTavish, into his new role as Camp Executive Director!
Ian has a long history with Camp Big Canoe that started in the ‘70s right up to this past summer as Assistant Director of Pee Wee Camp (and keen member of the Volunteer Maintenance crew). From camper to staff member, former Board member and long-time Pee Wee volunteer, Ian has experienced every side of camp: both the action-packed summers and important work that happens in the off-season. We are thrilled to have Ian’s experience and historical knowledge of all-things-camp – not to mention renditions of Herman the Worm for campfires – available to our developing D Team, staff, and this generation of campers.
As a very well-respected high school teacher, recognized this year with the Prime Minister’s award for teaching, and a provincial champion Robotics team coach, Ian has a wealth of experience as an educator and mentor. Leadership has always been a significant focus of our programs, and we feel hard-pressed to find someone more perfectly suited to explore and expand how we can increase and strengthen mentorship and learning for our staff and campers.
