July Skills 2002
While on our pre-8 day canoe trip with skills counsellors Chris Tindal, Sarah Horsely & Bill Elgie we found ourselves dealing with strong winds while paddling one of the days. It was suggested that we tie all the canoes together side by side and create a sail out of tarps and paddles. We were lucky to have the wind at our backs and ended up sailing several kilometres with next to no effort and lots of singing the song Barrett’s Privateers. At the end of the lake we realised there was a set of boat locks and we ended up sailing through on our canoe ship! Looking back on it, it was one of those ‘can’t believe it happened’ experiences that happen at Camp Big Canoe.
