Camp Big Canoe in 2020

Last update: May 19, 2020

The Government of Ontario has announced that overnight camps in the province will not be able to operate. With this news, we must sadly confirm that Camp Big Canoe will not be running our regular programs at camp this summer.

While this news is not unexpected, it is certainly difficult to know that the laughter, songs and good times will be missing from Hart Lake in 2020.
We may not be able to meet in person, but we feel strongly that it is incumbent upon us to reach out and stir up as much laughter, song and good times as possible, in any way we can. Camp Big Canoe staff and Board members have been working hard to create experiences online for campers to connect and have fun, and it’s working! Nothing will substitute a true Camp Big Canoe summer, but we wouldn’t be camp staff if we don’t dig down as deeply as we can and extract every ounce of energy and positivity out of this “rainy day”. On May 31st, we will be announcing a fantastic lineup of camp-style virtual experiences combined with a Camp-in-a-Box program.  Camp Big Canoe has thrived at Hart Lake for over 50 years, with nearly 40 years before that as Camp Ahshunyoong. We’ve done so through the strength, trust, support and generosity of our community. With this summer no longer a viable option in person, our annual source of income has been decimated. We now need your support more than ever as we invest in our staff, site and programs: we will come back stronger than ever in 2021. If you are in a position to do so, we ask that you consider making a donation.

Thank you for all the support and trust you have shown us especially in the past few weeks. It gives me strength, hope and resolve knowing that we are all paddling together.
