Steve Salt is excited and honoured to be our Executive Director at Camp Big Canoe, continuing to build upon the deep legacy of our 86 year history of camping.
Steve brings a wealth of camping, teaching, and leadership experience to the role, and is someone who has lived the Spirit of Camp Big Canoe since his days as a camper and staff member through the early 1990’s and into the 2000’s. A dedicated outdoor educator with an Honours BA in Kinesiology and Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education in Outdoor and Experiential Education from Queens University, Steve has brought his love of the outdoors and the endless possibilities that exist in learning from our environment, quite literally around the world.
“I’m so incredibly fortunate to get to be a part of making so many new memories, in a place where every step I take conjures up so many fond old ones. Camp Big Canoe has played such a huge role in me becoming who I am, and I am always excited to watch that spirit extend to new generations of campers. Can’t wait for the first campfire!”– Steve Salt, Executive Director of Camp Big Canoe
From the shores of Hart Lake, he has most recently brought this love to the students at the School of Nations in Macau after years of teaching in Peterborough and Lakefield, here in Ontario, as well as Antigua and Thailand. Steve has also plied his trade as a camp executive, being part of the Camp Big Canoe leadership team for over six years, as well as leading the Hidden Bay Leadership Camp as their Camp and Outdoor Education Director and the Kettleby Valley Camp and Outdoor Education Centre as the Assistant Camp Director and Outdoor Education Director.
Steve Salt is a camper at heart, a believer in the power of outdoor education and the possibilities of Camp Big Canoe, and a trusted mentor.
